The first planning meeting was an open invitation held on October 15th at the home of Mary Anne and AJ Thrush. The following meeting notes are as follows:

Minutes of the First Planning Meeting for the LHS Class of 1963 50th Reunion

The first planning meeting for the LHS Class of 1963 50th Reunion was held October 15, 2009 at the home of Allen and Mary Anne Thrush and was co-chaired by Allen Thrush and Doug Drew. Present were Tom & Nancy Lemert Moore, AJ & Mary Anne Thrush, Doug Drew, Mary Jo Mahon Gerdeman, Denny Conrad, Roger Wasem, Becky Porter Forthofer, John Edwards, Diane Edwards Lutz, Georgia Hart, Linda Wilmuth, Suzy McClellan, Janet Harvey, Larry Woods, Bill McCleery and Bill Raymond. Georgia Hart volunteered to be the recording secretary and will create minutes of the continued meetings.

The first order of business was the available funds in our account, which John Edwards reported was approx. $1570. He said before the 45th reunion we had approx. $3394 and that the cost of the past reunion was $1830.

The group commended Doug Drew for his efforts in developing our new class website www.lh63.com and for helping to find missing classmates on Facebook and other. Doug ask for volunteers to help verify or locate missing classmates and the following volunteered to help: Larry Woods, Nancy Moore, Roger Wasem and Janet Harvey. Doug will organize the information and contact these people soon.

We agreed that we should hold annual meetings around Fair time up to the year before the 50th reunion to communicate on specific assignments, such as the committee discussed and other specific assignments such as fund raisers, location, entertainment planning, etc.

Doug created a 50th Reunion Survey Proposal which can be found on our website that we will use closer to the event that will allow all class members to suggest things like timing, location, entertainment, etc. This will be sent out a year ahead of the reunion so the information from the surveys can be sent to the formed committees. Please go to the website to take a look and let Doug know if you have any other suggestions.

We also talked about things like scholarships or endowments our class might give to the high school. We talked about auctions (Larry Woods in an auctioneer!!), benefits, raffles, and a variety of other fundraisers we could do if we decided to do something like this. It was discussed that we would need to become a 501 (c) organization to become a non-profit entity so Larry Woods will check on this for us. We also need to determine what needs the high school might have so we can determine what to choose. Perhaps AJ can discuss this with the high school and provide a few options to consider.

The group thought it could be nice to hold a picnic next October, perhaps at Alley Park shelter house, and combine it with our next meeting. Alley Park charges $400 so we might need to charge or raise some money to cover. Georgia will check with Alley Park on availabilty for the first or last Sunday of Fair week. If we do, Larry suggested everyone bring loose change and throw it in a piggy bank which he could auction off to help cover the costs. If you have other suggestions on this or alternative locations please let us know.

Other ideas flowed that will become part of a committee action based on the response of our survey. And there being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
